Agreement to Terms

By accessing or using NAO, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, please do not use the service.

Description of Service

NAO is a mobile application and web surface that lets people tap in with a live signal while they're doing something right now and see others doing the same nearby. Signals are short-lived, show exact map coordinates, and focus on presence rather than planning.

Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old to use NAO. By using the service, you represent and warrant that you are at least 18 years of age.

Acceptable Use

When using NAO, you agree to:

  • Use the service only for its intended purpose of signaling openness to conversation
  • Treat all interactions with respect and dignity
  • Respect others' boundaries if they decline interaction
  • Not use the service for harassment, stalking, or intimidation
  • Not use the service for any illegal activities
  • Not attempt to identify or track other users' locations beyond what is displayed
  • Not create multiple device identifiers to circumvent restrictions
  • Not use automated systems or bots to interact with the service

Prohibited Conduct

The following behaviors are strictly prohibited:

  • Harassment: Following, intimidating, or repeatedly approaching someone who has indicated they are not interested
  • Inappropriate Content: Using offensive, discriminatory, or sexually explicit language in any tags or interactions
  • Commercial Use: Using NAO for advertising, solicitation, or commercial purposes
  • Impersonation: Misrepresenting yourself or your intentions
  • System Abuse: Attempting to exploit, hack, or disrupt the service

Reporting and Enforcement

Users can report inappropriate behavior through the app. We reserve the right to:

  • Investigate reported violations
  • Remove signals that violate these terms
  • Restrict or terminate access for users who violate these terms
  • Cooperate with law enforcement when required by law

Safety Disclaimer

Important: NAO is a tool for signaling presence in the moment. It does not verify user identities or guarantee anyone's intentions.

For your safety:

  • Meet in public places
  • Trust your instincts—if something feels wrong, leave
  • Tell someone where you're going
  • Don't share personal information like your home address
  • Report any concerning behavior through the app

Disclaimer of Warranties

NAO is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied. We do not warrant that:

  • The service will be uninterrupted or error-free
  • The service will meet your specific requirements
  • Location data will be perfectly accurate
  • Other users will behave appropriately

Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, NAO and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to:

  • Personal injury or harm resulting from real-world interactions
  • Loss of data or privacy breaches beyond our control
  • Conduct of other users
  • Service interruptions or technical failures

Privacy

Your use of NAO is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these terms by reference.

Changes to Terms

We may modify these terms at any time. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance of the new terms. We will update the "Last updated" date when changes are made.

Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access to NAO at any time, for any reason, without notice. You may stop using the service at any time by simply uninstalling the app.

Governing Law

These terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with applicable laws, without regard to conflict of law principles.
